Friday Night Live
FRIDAY NIGHT KIDS LIVE is a program offered through the County of Riverside TUPE and adopted by Moreno Valley Unified. It started at the high schools as “Friday Night Live”, to promote having fun without using alcohol or drugs. Due to its success, the middle schools created Club Live. Friday Night Live Kids targets our elementary students. The program is in its 6th year and continues to grow each year. It promotes leadership skills as well as focusing on the philosophy of living an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free life. Students apply for the position of Student Council. They organize activities for the 4th and 5th grade students during school and after school, run meetings, and plan and operate the events. The focus of the activities/ events is leadership, community awareness and involvement, as well as having fun without the use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Each classroom has two representatives who help in planning activities for the student body. FNLK just completed their annual food drive. We prepared 4 Thanksgiving baskets for our Cloverdale families. We sent the balance of our food drive (6 boxes) to the CAP Program. We are boxing up items for our soldiers in Iraq as well as boxing up items for Cloverdale families in need of help for the holiday season. Our programs have really helped families in our school as well as in our community. The program not only provides students with information about the harmful effects of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, but it also helps to create the concept that students at their age can and do make a difference.
