Principal's Message

Dear Cloverdale Families:

Welcome to the 2014-2015 year at Cloverdale Elementary School! As principal, my role is very diverse and involves the responsibility of being an advocate for all stakeholders (scholars, staff, parents and the community), instructional leader, ensuring a safe learning environment and providing resources to support staff and scholar development. This year, it is my hope to provide various enrichment opportunities for targeted groups of scholars. I also want to provide information that will benefit you supporting our scholars at home. In order to be successful, I need to hear back from you when our Fall and Spring Parent Surveys are provided. Please participate and provide your feed-forward as we collectively move towards learning more and being exemplary models for our scholars.

As we move to aligning with technology and minimizing paper-waste, many of our notifications, surveys and announcements will be available online through Peachjar eflyers. You will receive personal emails with our flyers.  Please be sure to have your email address on file in the office. This is a very convenient way to stay up-to-date through your home computer or smartphone. I will continue with sending ParentLink phone calls as well, but you are always welcomed to contact the office for more information.

The staff and I look forward to serving you and your scholar on their journey of academic and social success. We are celebrating our second year of offering Transitional Kinder, which gives an opportunity for children to become acclimated to the school environment early. Our entire instructional staff is focusing on implementing Four Academic Topics (Cultural Diversity; Government; Music/Arts; and Science Technology) throughout the school year to expand our scholars' access to informational text that support the Common Core State Standards. In addition, we are implementing two new programs school-wide to increase reading proficiency, using Imagine Learning, and building academic vocabulary with Language Power.

We will ensure that every scholar receives structured and rigorous instruction that is differentiated for their needs. Our expectations are high and we want to continue a legacy of Cloverdale champions. It is our intent to provide support for you to become decision-making partners alongside the teaching staff and me.

Please consider participating on our parent committees such as School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee, Parent Teacher Association, The Lions Booster Club or volunteering in our Parent Center or classrooms. This year we are also looking forward to developing our African American Parent Advisory Committee. Research has shown that scholars with parents involved in school committees/activities outperform scholars whose parents are not involved.

I practice an open door policy and hope that you feel welcome to communicate openly with me. The entire staff will continue a positive culture of open communication between school and home. Again, welcome to 2014-2015. Let us make this a year of building pawsitive Cloverdale Champions!
